Science and Social Studies

Science and Social Studies lessons are always our favorite times of the day. We really enjoy learning about nature and habitats in Science class and all the fun projects/experiments that we get to participate in. We also learned about the planets in our Solar System and their order from the Sun. In Social Studies, we have been learning Geography and where the continents and oceans are located. We’ve also been really interested in American and World History. We enjoyed learning about the events of September 11, 2001 and are currently learning about the Seven Wonders of the World.

During our Math lessons, we have been reviewing our addition and subtraction problems that need regrouping. We also learned how to add and subtract three-digit numbers with regrouping. We have been learning how to solve word problems also. Currently, we are comparing two numbers and learning the different place values of a number.

Language Arts

In Language Arts, we have been focusing on expanding our vocabulary and sight word list. We’ve been learning new letter blends and using them to make different words. We’ve been practicing writing our addresses and identifying if a statement is a fact or an opinion.

During our daily group sessions we have been learning and practicing new coping and problem solving skills. We have been learning how to control and respond appropriately to anger, anxiety, and worry. We’ve also been working hard to identify stressors and how to avoid them if possible.

Special Events

Our special events this grading period have included celebrating Labor Day and also Columbus Day. As a class, we enjoyed an ice cream party for winning the door decorating contest for the month of September. Currently we are enjoying Fire Safety Week and working hard to earn the field trip to the Akron Zoo.

Classroom 3 Newsletter of 2016-2017

In group this first quarter we have covered a numbered of topics. We worked over our problems and helped our peers as much as we could. Some of the topics we covered included anger management; how to control our anger towards ourselves and others, conflict resolution;how we cope and overcome disputes, and socialization, which we are still studying. Socialization has taught us that we can talk or socialize with others positively or negatively, we can socialize too much, and we are social 24/7. The whole group process is used to help us focus and help us be ready for the future, at home and at school, or wherever life takes us.

-English/Language Arts-By:Breanna

This new school year our class has learned about grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary as well. We have been given spelling words, in which we find their definitions, each list getting more difficult as the weeks past. Once we have the list we make flashcards to help us study by ourselves and with our peers. We have also read a short story called “The Sniper” by Liam O'Flaherty . With this story we had answered questions based on what we read along with a short video that went with the story. We have also been doing article of the week, in which we read the article and answer questions that go with it.

Algebra 1/Geometry-By:Alex

In this class we have studied a variety of topics. The first thing we learned how to round numbers and decimals , the next is exponents, the third being estimating sums, differences, products and quotients. Next, we studied numerical patterns with the last being variables and expressions.

-Algebra 2-By:Gage

In class I have reviewing Algebra 1 and Geometry on the online math class. I am now working on other things like variables, area of shapes. One of these shapes include triangles, given two sides and an angle. This is what I have been working on so far.

-Probability And Statistics-By:Breanna

For the first semester of this new school year I have started a different online mathematics class. So far, I have learned all about statistics and probability. This online class helps me understand how to work out different ways to find the sum of the answer.

-Social Studies/History-By:Alex

In the first quarter of the year we covered many subjects. In this particular subject we learned about the Olympics, which we had power point over the information we found and we presented this to the class. We each picked a country, mine being The United States and had drawn the flag of that country and found facts not only about the country but the flag as well. We also learned about the Rio Olympic Games, it was a big success. All of us learned cool and interesting stuff about other country's as well, like England and Mexico, just to list a few.

-Science -By:Jeremiah and Kolton

In the first quarter of the school year of 2016 we have covered many subjects. In science we started off with learning about the earth and the main thing we have currently been researching is natural disasters, like Hurricane Matthew and his sister Nicole. We also studied the weather and how it can affect the way people live. Also we learned about what makes a compound and what it is exactly, along with maps. These are mostly what we have covered this first quarter.

-Health and Physical Education(P.E)-By:Lucas

In P.E and Health Mr. G and Mr. Asa took us down to the gym and outside, as well. But before we can start shooting hoops and such, we walk 4-7 laps. During gym we usually play around-the-world or kick the soccer ball around. In Health we have been learning about our body and how it functions.

Vocation is when one or more students help around the school. This is either when we clean up or help take trash out to the dumpsters or even clean our classrooms. This helps us learn responsibility and how to work at a job outside of school.

Language Arts/Spelling
In Language Arts we have weekly spelling tests. Every week we are getting more words and they are getting harder. We are also working on synonyms, antonyms and homophones. We have used these skills to write different stories and Haiku Poems.

During math class we have been working on our multiplication and division facts. We have used our facts to get better in adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. To practice our facts we play "Trashket". We get to shoot the ball in the trash can if we get the problem correct.

In Science we have been doing a lot of different experiments. With each experiment we have made a hypothesis. We were able to see if our hypothesis was right at the end of the experiment.
